The Western Carolina Catamounts and the Chattanooga Mocs meet Wednesday in college basketball action from McKenzie Arena. Western Carolina is 9-16 so far this year. The Catamounts lost to UNC Greensboro in their last game. As for Chattanooga, they’re 20-5 on the season and coming off an OT win over Mercer. Western Carolina managed a decent 6-4 run over their first 10 games this year, but they haven’t been able to win consecutive games since. After starting the month with a win over East Tennessee State, the Catamounts have since lost to VMI and UNCG.

In the matchup versus UNC Greensboro on Monday, the Catamounts scored just 19 points in the first half. Things got better from there but Western Carolina still lost 68-49. Nicholas Robinson led the team on 20 points and five boards.

Over on the Chattanooga side, they’ve been on a nice 11-2 stretch since late December. The wins in that time have come over Middle Tennessee, ETSU, Wofford, the Citadel, Furman, UNCG, VMI, Wofford, the Citadel and Mercer (twice).

Matched up against Mercer on Monday, the Mocs overcame a 24-31 halftime deficit and forced overtime. At the final buzzer Chattanooga had a 74-72 victory. Tops in scoring was Avery Diggs with 21 bench points and five rebounds.

The Mocs are 17-7 ATS in their last 24 Wednesday games and 19-6-1 ATS in their last 26 after an ATS loss. The over is 8-2 in Chattanooga’s last 10 Wednesday games.

Meanwhile, the Catamounts are 4-1 ATS in their last five Wednesday games and 5-2 ATS in their last seven after an ATS loss. The under is 4-0 in Western Carolina’s last four road games.

PICK: I’m going to stay with Chattanooga, but it’s admittedly a thick line to mess with. The Mocs have been on a nice run lately and they’re scoring well with 71 or more points in eight straight games.

The last time these teams met up on January 12, Western Carolina pulled off a 70-59 win. Chattanooga had an ugly second half in that one and shot just 31.5 percent from the floor. I like the Mocs to bounce back here and pull off a statement cover.
