Alabama A&M took on Tennessee State in their first game of the year. The Bulldogs took a 40-34 edge into halftime and were able to hang on for an 82-73 victory. Jalen Johnson was the lead scorer, doubling up on 17 points, 12 rebounds and two assists.

In their second outing of the year, the Bulldogs didn’t perform as well. Alabama A&M looked lost in the first half against Jacksonville State, scoring just 18 points in an eventual 70-47 blowout defeat. Johnson, Garrett Hicks and Eric Lee each scored 11 points in that one.

Over on the Cincinnati side, their first matchup this year was against Evansville. The Bearcats held the Aces to 22 points in the first half and 21 more in the second on the way to a 65-43 win. Jeremiah Davenport led the way on 11 points and eight rebounds.

Game two against Georgia went well for the Bearcats also. Cincinnati played a tight second half with a 42-38 deficit, but had built up enough of a lead to take the win 73-68. Davenport and Mika Adams-Woods each notched 11 points with a combined nine rebounds.

The Bearcats are 3-14 ATS in their last 17 at home and 14-38 ATS in their last 52 after a straight-up win. Cincinnati is 18-38 ATS in their last 56 as a favorite.
Meanwhile, the Bulldogs are 0-6 ATS in the last six as a road underdog and 2-8 ATS in their last 10 overall. Alabama A&M is 1-5 ATS in the last six after an ATS loss.

PICK: I’m probably sticking with Cincinnati here. The Bearcats had a spotty second half against Georgia but still shot 40 percent from the floor and had a 40-31 rebounding advantage. Cincinnati was cold from 3-point range with just 4-of-20 (20 percent) made, but still had enough offense to get the job done.

As for the Bulldogs, they suffered from a bad first half against Jacksonville State and never recovered. I like Alabama A&M to play comparatively better here, but I don’t think they’ll cover.
