The Monmouth Hawks and the Cincinnati Bearcats meet Saturday in college basketball action from Fifth Third Arena. Monmouth is 4-1 so far this year. The Hawks took out Princeton in their last game. As for Cincinnati, they’re 5-1 this season. The Bearcats took their first loss to Arkansas in their last game. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.

Monmouth lost a tough one in their opener, falling 68-66 to Charlotte. Since then the Hawks have hit a string of wins. In their next three outings, Monmouth beat Towson, Lehigh and Saint Joseph’s to move to 3-1.

On Wednesday Monmouth added another victory to their collection. In the game against Princeton, the Hawks posted a 37-18 second-half advantage in a 76-64 comeback win. George Papas topped the team with 20 points and eight rebounds.

Over on the Cincinnati side, everything went very well over their first five games this season. The Bearcats took out Evansville, Georgia, Alabama A&M and Presbyterian over their first four, then upset Illinois 71-51 on Monday.

In Tuesday’s matchup against Arkansas, Cincinnati had a 30-26 edge at halftime but ultimately couldn’t hold it in a 73-67 loss. David DeJulius led the team with 24 points, and Ody Oguama added 10 rebounds with four points in 17 minutes.

The Bearcats are 3-1-1 ATS in their last five at home and 5-21 ATS in their last 26 Saturday games. Cincinnati is 6-14-1 ATS in their last 21 after an ATS loss.

Meanwhile, the Hawks are 4-0 ATS in their last four after an ATS win and 5-0 ATS in their last five overall. The over is 5-1 in Monmouth’s last six after an ATS win.

PICK: I’m going to stick with Cincinnati. The Bearcats had a pretty solid first half against Arkansas in their last game, but faded down the stretch in the defeat. Cincinnati shot a decent 40.7 percent from the field in that one, but were destroyed 46-32 in rebounding and only had eight assists.

As for Monmouth, they had a weak first and a good second half in their last game. The Hawks had six different players with at least eight points against Princeton, so it was a quality team effort. That said, if Cincinnati comes back with a vengeance here after their first loss I don’t think the Hawks will be able to keep up.
