Boston College Eagles
The Eagles put up a 9-3 run through their first 12 games this year, but they weren’t able to win more than two consecutive games for the rest of the regular season. Boston College hit a four-game losing streak to Florida State, NC State, Virginia and Pittsburgh late in the year, then bounced back with wins over Miami (twice) and Louisville in the next three.
In the tournament game Tuesday versus Miami, the Eagles jumped out to a 47-32 edge by the break. Boston College kept the pace steady in the second half with a 34-33 run and took the eventual win 81-65. Tops in scoring was Quinten Post with 30 points and 13 rebounds for a double-double.
Clemson Tigers
Over on the Clemson side, they managed to go 17-7 over their first 24 games this year. The Tigers are 4-3 in the last seven games with wins over Georgia Tech, Florida State, Pittsburgh and Syracuse. The losses otherwise were versus NC State, Notre Dame and Wake Forest.
Matched up against Wake Forest on Saturday, the Tigers trailed 34-28 going into the second half. Clemson got better from there on 48 more points but couldn’t come back in an 81-76 result. PJ Hall led the scoring in the losing effort with 18 points, four assists and three steals.
ANDREW’S FREE BOSTON COLLEGE VS CLEMSON PREDICTION
I’ll probably lean toward Clemson. The Tigers didn’t exactly play their best versus Wake Forest in their last outing, though. Clemson gave up a whopping 58 percent shooting from the field and mustered just 23 rebounds in the loss. The good news is that the Tigers were great from the line on 15-of-16 overall. Clemson has given up a combined 156 points over the last two outings, though.
In the last meeting between these teams on January 13, Clemson took an 89-78 road victory. The Tigers posted a 38-23 rebounding edge in that one and hit 18 of their 22 free throws (81.8 percent). Both teams shot well (over 50.7 percent) and had single-digit turnovers in a pretty clean game overall. This rematch is probably going to be a high-scoring affair as well, and I like the Tigers to stay in control.
