The South Carolina Gamecocks and the Clemson Tigers meet Wednesday in college basketball action from Littlejohn Coliseum. South Carolina is undefeated through seven games so far, most recently taking out George Washington on Friday. As for Clemson, they’re 7-0 this year as well. South Carolina Gamecocks 

The Gamecocks are cooking so far this year, but the team has had a couple of close finishes along the way. South Carolina beat USC Upstate, Virginia Tech, VMI, DePaul, Grand Canyon and Notre Dame in their first half-dozen games. In the win over the Irish, the Gamecocks held the opposition to just 32.7 percent shooting. 

South Carolina was able to keep it going in their last matchup versus George Washington. The Gamecocks were up by 10 points at the break and cruised on a 47-35 run from there in an 89-67 victory. Meechie Johnson was the top team scorer with 24 points and eight rebounds in the winning effort. 

Clemson Tigers 

Over on the Tigers’ side, they’re in much the same boat with a nice undefeated run this year. Clemson beat Winthrop, UAB, Davidson, Boise State, Alcorn State and Alabama in those first six outings. Last Tuesday versus the Tide, the Tigers shot a nice 53.3 percent from the field in an 85-77 result. 

The Tigers bagged another win over Pitt in their latest matchup. Clemson was up 37-26 by halftime and was able to hold on for a 79-70 outcome. Joseph Girard was the leading team scorer on 25 points and two assists. PJ Hall doubled up with 22 points, 11 rebounds and three steals as well. 

ANDREW’S FREE SOUTH CAROLINA VS CLEMSON PREDICTION

I’ll probably just stick with Clemson here. This should be a pretty fun matchup regardless, though. The Tigers are playing great basketball right now and coming off another solid win over Pitt. Clemson hit 46.7 percent from the field in that one with a 40-33 rebounding advantage. That makes 79 or more points in four straight games this year. 

As for South Carolina, they’re no slouches either. The Gamecocks have scored 73 or more in all but one outing this season, so we should have a pretty significant points total if both teams are on point. I like Clemson to eke out the cover in a competitive game. It’ll be a great one to check out.
