Youngstown State began their season at 9-5 through 14 games, taking losses to Penn State, SIUE, Niagara, West Virginia and Oakland along the way. After losses to Fort Wayne, Cleveland State and Northern Kentucky, the Penguins managed a win over Wright State.
In the Wright State game Saturday, Youngstown State was down 46-40 at the break. The Penguins stormed back on a 50-41 run from there for the 90-87 comeback win. Leading the way was Dwayne Cohill with 25 points and four rebounds.
Over on the Vikings’ side, they opened with a pair of losses this year but have been on a nice 11-2 run since then. The losses in that time were to Oklahoma State (OT) and Oakland. In their last game the Vikings took out Detroit Mercy in a thriller.
Matched up against Detroit, the Vikings went into the break with a one-point deficit. Cleveland State posted 41 points from there in a 72-70 win. D’Moi Hodge topped the team with 16 points, three rebounds, one assist and a steal in the victory.
Cleveland State is 0-4 ATS in the last four Friday games and 14-5 ATS in their last 19 after an ATS loss. The Vikings are 0-4 ATS in the last four at home.
Meanwhile, the Penguins are 1-4 ATS in their last five after a straight-up win and 2-5 ATS in the last seven overall. Youngstown State is 5-2 ATS in the last seven road games.
PICK: I’m going to try Youngstown State in this one. The Penguins are just 1-3 over their last four games, but they’ve been fairly competitive in that time. Youngstown State has a one-point loss and an overtime loss mixed in there, so things have been close. As for Cleveland State, they’ve been playing it very tight lately as well, with a one-point win, a two-point win and an OT win in their last three victories. This matchup should be close also; I like the Penguins to power out a cover.
