Georgia Southern was above .500 as recently as February 3 while sitting at 11-9. The Eagles then hit a losing streak versus Troy, Appalachian State, Coastal Carolina, Georgia State (twice) and Louisiana before managing a win over LA Monroe.
In the LA Monroe game on Friday, the Eagles blew a 38-31 halftime lead and needed overtime to decide the game. The Eagles hit a 11-5 run in the extra period and won 81-75. Tops in scoring was Kamari Brown with 22 points and seven boards.
Over on the Chanticleers’ side, they’ve been fighting against the .500 mark for most of the year as well. Coastal Carolina fell to 13-12 after a recent loss to South Alabama, but since then they’ve taken out Troy, Arkansas State and Little Rock in succession.
On Friday versus Little Rock, the Chanticleers outscored the Trojans 33-25 in the first half and 35-30 in the second on the way to a 68-55 victory. Coastal’s leading scorer was Vince Cole on 21 points, three rebounds and three assists.
The Chanticleers are 8-19 ATS in their last 27 after an ATS win and 11-23-1 ATS in their last 35 after a straight-up win. Coastal Carolina is 4-1 ATS in their last five overall.
Meanwhile, the Eagles are 11-5-1 ATS in their last 17 Thursday games and 1-4 ATS in their last five overall. Georgia Southern is 2-5 ATS in their last seven after an ATS win.
PICK: I’m going to stay with Coastal Carolina. The Chanticleers have certainly had their choppy moments recently, but they’re playing better over the last five games. Coastal has hit 68 or more points in each of those outings—that follows a four-game stretch with 66 or fewer in each.
The last time these teams met up back on January 20, Coastal Carolina took a 76-72 road victory. I expect this one will be pretty competitive as well, but I still like Coastal to power out the cover in a fun matchup.
