The American Eagles and the Colgate Raiders meet Monday in college basketball action from Cotterell Court. American is 8-19 on the year so far. The Eagles beat Army in their last game. American won their first two games this year, but wouldn’t see another victory for nearly a month. The Eagles haven’t been able to win consecutive games since then, but they’ve beaten Holy Cross and Army in their last three outings.
In the Army matchup on Saturday, the Eagles had a 35-33 lead by halftime. American was able to hang on with 48 points from there in a nice 83-67 win. Tops in scoring was Colin Smalls with 17 points, four rebounds and two steals.
Over on the Colgate side, they started the year out at an ugly 4-10 but they’ve only lost one game (to Boston U on January 28) since then. In the last three games the Raiders have beaten Lafayette, Army and Boston University.
In the rematch versus Boston U on Saturday, the Raiders were down by three points at the break. Colgate hit a 45-23 run from there in a 72-53 victory. Leading the way was Nelly Cummings on 18 points with five boards and three assists in the win.
The Raiders are 3-1-1 ATS in their last five at home and 0-5 ATS in their last five overall. The over is 5-2 in Colgate’s last seven overall.
Meanwhile, the Eagles are 2-6 ATS in their last eight road games and 7-3 ATS in their last 10 Friday games. American is 3-8 ATS in their last 11 overall.
PICK: I’m going to stay with Colgate. The Raiders are on a nice run during this nine-game win streak. They’ve hit 69 or more points in eight of those outings and seem to be controlling things well on defense also. The last time these teams met back on February 5, the Raiders secured an 86-68 road victory. This one might not be such a blowout, but considering the familiar atmosphere I’d say Colgate will be just fine here.
