College of Charleston vs Hampton 12/29/22 Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Hampton Pirates and the College of Charleston Cougars meet Thursday in college basketball action from TD Arena. Hampton is 3-9 overall this year. The Pirates lost to Texas Southern in their last matchup. As for Charleston, they’re sitting at 12-1 overall following a win versus Coastal Carolina last Monday. Hampton went just 1-5 over their first six games this year, logging a win over only Regent VA. The Pirates are 2-4 since then, falling to Georgia, Bowling Green, Norfolk State and TX Southern with wins over Howard and Loyola MD. 

In the Texas Southern matchup back on December 18, Hampton went into the second half with a 37-37 tie. The Pirates couldn’t keep up from there and lost 82-77. Jordan Nesbitt was tops on the team in scoring with 18 points and seven rebounds. 

Over on the Charleston side, they’ve fallen to only North Carolina so far. The wins have come versus Chattanooga, Richmond, Davidson, Colorado State, Virginia Tech, Kent State, Old Dominion, the Citadel, Presbyterian, North Greenville, Stetson and Coastal Carolina. 

Matched up against Coastal Carolina back on December 19, the Cougars jumped out to a 46-35 halftime lead. Charleston posted a 37-34 edge in the second half and won 83-69. Reyne Smith topped the team on 23 points. 

PICK: I’m going to stay with Charleston here. The line’s probably too thick to mess with, though. The Cougars have had a few close calls along the way but there’s not much to complain about when it comes to this 12-1 start. Charleston has scored 65 or more points in all 13 games so far, and they’ve hit 83 or more in two of the last three. The Cougars shouldn’t have too much trouble putting up points in this one. As for Hampton, they’ve been fairly competitive for the most part this season but haven’t had much luck in the win column. I don’t think the Pirates will get close here either.
