The New Mexico Lobos and the Colorado State Rams meet Wednesday in college basketball action from Arena-Auditorium. New Mexico is 7-10 so far this year. New Mexico started out pretty well this year, going 4-1 over their first five games. The Lobos have only won three games since then, however. The last four have been losses to Nevada, Utah State, UNLV and Boise State.
In the Boise State game, the Lobos were down 32-22 by halftime. New Mexico scored better from there but couldn’t catch up in a 71-63 loss. The Lobos’ top scorer was Jaelen House with 21 points, three rebounds and seven assists.
Over on the Colorado State side, they opened the year on a great 11-0 run before a 79-49 blowout loss to San Diego State on January 8. Since then however, it’s been two more wins over Utah State and San Jose State for the Rams.
In the San Jose State game over the weekend, Colorado State scored 35 points in the first half and 43 more in the second during a 78-42 blowout win. Dischon Thomas led the Rams with his 14 points and seven rebounds during 15 minutes of work.
The Rams are 1-4 ATS in their last five at home versus a team with a losing road record and the under is 7-0 in their last seven overall. The under is 5-0 in Colorado State’s last five at home.
Meanwhile, the Lobos are 5-1 ATS in their last six road games and 4-1 ATS in their last five overall. The under is 4-1 in New Mexico’s last five overall.
PICK: I’m going to stay with Colorado State, even though the line is pretty thick here. The Rams have bounced back well in the last two games since their loss, scoring a combined 155 points in that pair. Colorado State is generally a high-scoring team this year, and shouldn’t have a ton of trouble putting up points against New Mexico. The Lobos have given up 71 or more in each of their last four games (all losses). The cover should be there for Colorado State if they play to their capabilities.
