The St. Mary’s Gaels and the Colorado State Rams meet Saturday in college basketball action from Moby Arena. St. Mary’s is 8-1 so far this year and fresh off a win over Utah State. As for Colorado State, they’re rolling along at 8-0 and took out Little Rock in their last game. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.
St. Mary’s hit a six-game win streak out of the gate this year, beating Prairie View, Texas Southern, Southern Utah, Bellarmine, Notre Dame and Oregon. After a loss to Wisconsin, the Gaels bounced back with wins over UC Riverside and Utah State.
In the Utah State matchup, St. Mary’s scored just 16 points in the first half and things were looking grim. The Gaels surged for 44 points from there however and eked out a 60-58 comeback victory. Alex Ducas put up 13 points with three boards and two assists.
Over on the Colorado State side, it’s been smooth sailing so far (with a couple of close calls). The eight wins have come versus Oral Roberts, AR-Pine Bluff, Peru State, Bradley, Creighton, Northeastern, Northern Colorado and Little Rock.
Matched up against Little Rock, the Rams jumped out to a big 43-20 lead going into halftime. From there Colorado State put up 43 more points in an 86-55 blowout win. David Roddy and Isaiah Stevens each scored 12 points with a combined 15 assists.
The Rams are 2-5 ATS in their last seven at home and 1-5 ATS in their last six after an ATS win. The over is 5-2 in Colorado State’s last seven at home.
Meanwhile, the Gaels are 2-5 ATS in the last seven after an ATS win and 4-1 ATS in their last five overall. The under is 4-1 in St. Mary’s last five Saturday games.
PICK: I’m going to stick with Colorado State. The Rams kept up their torrid pace in the last game, shooting 55.9 percent versus Little Rock with 32 rebounds and 24 team assists. Colorado State hasn’t run into many problems this year outside of a relatively close and low-scoring six-point win over Bradley.
As for Saint Mary’s they get major credit for a great second half against a solid Utah State team. This matchup should be a really fun one to watch, and I expect the Gaels to give the Rams a competitive game.
