Colorado State won their first four games over Gardner-Webb, SE Louisiana, Weber State and South Carolina. After losses to Charleston and Penn State, the Rams rebounded with wins over MS Valley State and LMU.
In the Northern Colorado matchup back on Saturday, the Rams faced a three-point halftime deficit. Colorado State posted 49 points in the second half but still lost 88-83. Leading scorer Patrick Cartier managed 23 points, and Isaiah Stevens had 20 points.
Over on the Colorado side, they alternated wins with losses over their first eight games. The victories in that stretch were over UC Riverside, Tennessee, Texas A&M and Yale; the losses were to Grambling State, UMass, Boise State and Arizona State.
The Buffaloes took another loss in their last game Sunday, this time to Washington. The Buffaloes were outscored 33-26 in the first half during a 73-63 loss. J’Vonne Hadley led the way on 15 points, and both KJ Simpson and Tristan da Silva added 13 points.
PICK: I’ll probably try Colorado here. The Buffaloes did some good things against a talented Washington team in their last outing, including out-rebounding the Huskies 30-27 (13-4 offensive) and shooting 44.1 percent from the floor. That said, Colorado also shot just 6-of-13 (46.2 percent) from the line and gave up 50 percent shooting on the other side.
As for Colorado State, they put up a nice offensive total against Northern Colorado in their last game but just couldn’t keep the pace. The Rams have scored 83 or more points in three straight games so the Buffaloes are going to need to have a good offensive day to get in on a cover. I think they can do it.
