MD Eastern Shore has managed to beat Bryn Athyn, Marist, Lehigh, Summit and Temple this year. The losses have come versus Old Dominion, Charlotte, George Washington, Virginia, Liberty, George Mason and Duke.
Matched up against Temple last Tuesday, the Hawks were down 45-43 going into the second half. MD Eastern Shore hit a 43-33 run from there and won 86-78. Da’Shawn Phillip led the way on 18 points, and Nathaniel Pollard doubled with 14 points and 10 boards.
Over on the Columbia side, their wins have come versus Delaware State, SUNY Maritime, New Hampshire, Sarah Lawrence and Lafayette. The Lions have fallen to Rutgers, UMass Lowell, Sacred Heart, Maine, Binghamton, Providence, Marist, UMBC and Fairleigh Dickinson otherwise.
In the Lafayette game, the Lions were up by five points at halftime. Columbia held the Leopards to just 18 second-half points and won it 57-45. Blair Thompson was tops in scoring with 13 points and seven rebounds.
PICK: I’ll probably stay with MD Eastern Shore in this one. The Hawks posted a pretty solid all-around game versus Temple in their last outing, shooting 47.5 percent from the field with a 40-29 rebounding advantage (17-9 offensive). MD Eastern Shore has scored 86 or more points in consecutive games, which is a nice-bounce back after hitting 65 or fewer for five straight outings. As for Columbia, they’ll probably make this one interesting. That said, I still like MD Eastern Shore better cover-wise.
