The Penn Quakers and the Columbia Lions meet in college basketball action from Levien Gymnasium on Friday night.
The Penn Quakers will look to build on back-to-back wins after a 78-74 win over Harvard in their last game. Jordan Dingle leads the Quakers in scoring with 19.4 PPG along with 2.3 APG as the lone double-digit scorer for Penn so far this season. Clark Slajchert has 9.9 PPG while Jonah Charles has 8.1 PPG and Max Martz has 9.3 PPG and 5.1 RPG as well this season. As a team, Penn is averaging 71 PPG on 44.2% shooting from the field, 34% from three and 73.4% from the foul line while allowing 74.6 PPG on 45.4% shooting from the field and 33.8% from three this season.
The Columbia Lions will look to snap a four-game losing skid after a 76-63 loss to Dartmouth last time out. Liam Murphy has 12.2 PPG with 4.6 RPG while Geronimo Rubio de la Rosa is right behind with 12.1 PPG along with a team-high 3.4 APG and Ike Nweke has 17.6 PPG and 7.1 RPG in eight games for the Lions this season. Patrick Harding also leads the Lions on the glass, pulling down 8.2 RPG up to this point in the season. As a team, Columbia is averaging 69.3 PPG on 44.5% shooting from the field, 37.3% from three and 62.5% from the foul line while allowing 78.4 PPG on 46.1% shooting from the field and 38.3% from three this season.
Penn is 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games overall and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 road games while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 games against a team with a losing record. Columbia is 4-10 ATS in their last 14 home games and 2-9 ATS in their last 11 home games against a team with a losing road record while the over is 6-0 in their last 6 games following a double-digit loss at home.
I get the case to be made either way here, and I was leaning towards Penn laying the points, but we have yet to see the Quakers lay points in conference play so far this season. On the other hand, Columbia has not been good at all and you start to wonder if any number of points is safe with this Lions team. Instead, I’m going to side with the over as Columbia has a tendency to give up points in bunches and Penn is no saint on the defensive end either. I think this one could get into the high 150s fairly easily, so give me the over here.
