The Seton Hall Pirates and the UConn Huskies meet in college basketball action from the XL Center on Wednesday night.
The Seton Hall Pirates could use a win after a 73-67 road loss to Villanova last time out. Jared Rhoden leads the Pirates in scoring with 15.4 PPG along with 6.8 RPG while Bryce Aiken has 14.5 PPG to make up the pair of double-digit scorers up to this point in the year. Myles Cale has 9.8 PPG with 3.9 RPG while Alexis Yetna has 9.1 PPG with a team-high 7.8 RPG to lead the Pirates. Kadary Richmond has 8.9 PPG with a team-high 4.1 APG to lead the Pirates in the assist department this season. As a team, Seton Hall is averaging 75.4 PPG on 42.7% shooting from the field, 33.8% from three and 76.1% from the foul line while allowing 67.5 PPG on 40.4% shooting from the field and 31% from three this season.
The UConn Huskies will hope to find some consistency after alternating wins and losses in each of their last four games following a 63-60 win over St. John’s last time out. R.J. Cole leads UConn in scoring with 16.2 PPG as well as in assists with 4.5 APG while Adama Sanogo has 14.9 PPG with a team-high 8.2 RPG. Tyrese Martin has 13.9 PPG and 6.7 RPG to make up the scoring in double figures for UConn so far this season while Isaiah Whaley and Tyler Polley each have 7.5 PPG and Andre Jackson has 7.6 RPG as well this season. As a team, UConn is averaging 77 PPG on 43.3% shooting from the field, 35.2% from three and 75.4% from the foul line while allowing 65.3 PPG on 39.5% shooting from the field and 34% from three this season.
Seton Hall is 13-6 ATS in their last 19 road games against a team with a home winning percentage above .600 and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games following an ATS win while the under is 10-2 in their last 12 road games. UConn is 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games overall and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games against a team with a winning percentage above .600 while the over is 25-9 in their last 34 home games.
I get the case to be made either way here as UConn’s been the better cover team and are at home while Seton Hall has been no slouch and are a better team than what they’ve shown as of late. With that said, I’m sticking with Seton Hall here as I just think this is a closer game than the line suggests. I could see this as a 2-4 point win for UConn at best, and both teams need the win for tournament resume purposes. Give me the points in a tight battle on Wednesday.
