The Colgate Raiders and the Cornell Big Red meet in college basketball action from Bartels Hall on Tuesday night.
The Colgate Raiders will be looking to bounce back from a 77-74 loss to NC State in their last game. Nelly Cummings leads the Raiders in scoring with 22 PPG as the lone double-digit scorer for the Raiders through their first two games of the season. Oliver Lynch-Daniels has 9 PPG and Jeff Woodward has 8.5 PPG while another three Colgate players have 8 PPG, including Tucker Richardson who also has team-highs of 7.5 RPG and 4 APG this season. As a team, Colgate is averaging 69.5 PPG on 42.3% shooting from the field, 40.8% from three and 80.6% from the foul line while allowing 67.5 PPG on 44.9% shooting from the field and 24.1% from three this season.
The Cornell Big Red will look to add to their 2-0 start to the year after a 90-85 win over Lafayette last time out. Jordan Jones leads the Big Red in scoring with 19.5 PPG along with 4.5 RPG while Chris Manon has 18 PPG and a team-high 6.5 RPG as the only other double-digit scorer for Cornell through their first two games of the year. Greg Dolan has 9.5 PPG and Sarju Patel has 8.5 PPG with 5 RPG while Kobe Dickson has 5.5 PPG with 6 RPG and 3 APG this season. As a team, Cornell is averaging 83 PPG on 46.3% shooting from the field, 31.4% from three and 63.3% from the foul line while allowing 77 PPG on 40.7% shooting from the field and 29.9% from three this season.
Colgate is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 road games and 3-1-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall while the under is 5-2 in their last 7 road games. Cornell is 15-35-2 ATS in their last 52 games following a win and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 home games against a team with a losing road record while the over is 4-0 in their last 4 games overall.
I get why Cornell is favored at home as the Big Red have shown no signs of rust early on that the cancelled season took a toll on them. However, The Big Red played two softer teams compared to Colgate, who just took a solid NC State team to the wire and almost had the outright win in that game. This is a really good Colgate team that could once again make it to the Big Dance. Give me the Raiders here.
