Lehigh has managed wins over Misericordia, Marist, St. Francis PA, Monmouth and St. Elizabeth this year. Otherwise the losses have come to Syracuse, Virginia Tech, MD Eastern Shore, UMBC and Wisconsin.
In the St. Elizabeth matchup on Saturday, the Hawks jumped out to a 48-19 lead after the first half. Lehigh cruised on a 46-17 run from there in a blowout win 94-36. Leading scorer Tyler Whitney-Sidney posted 16 points with four rebounds.
Over on the Cornell side, they went 7-1 over their first eight games with wins over SUNY Delhi, St. Francis PA, Ithaca, Canisius, Monmouth, Delaware and Lafayette. Since then the Big Red have fallen to Miami-FL and Syracuse.
Matched up against Syracuse on Saturday, the Big Red had a 37-37 tie going into the second half. Cornell was outpaced 41-26 from there and lost 78-63. Nazir Williams was the high man with 12 points and four assists.
PICK: I’ll probably stay with Cornell. The Big Red were outmatched in the second half of their most recent appearance by a pretty good Syracuse team. Cornell shot a tepid 32.9 percent with 13-of-48 (27.1 percent) from 3-point range and a 45-39 rebounding advantage (22-9 offensive). Outside of that bad half and a couple of two-point losses to Boston College and Miami-FL, Cornell has been doing pretty great this year. As for Lehigh, they’ve struggled on the scoreboard lately and only posted 62 points or fewer in three of the last four games. I don’t think they’ll be able to hang around with Cornell.
