The Butler Bulldogs and the Creighton Bluejays meet Tuesday in college basketball action from CenturyLink Center Omaha. Butler is 11-12 on the season and coming off a loss to St. John’s. Butler was sitting at 9-6 back in mid-January, but it’s been a rough run since then. The Bulldogs are just 2-6 over their last eight games with losses to Villanova, UConn (twice), Providence, Xavier and St. John’s in that time.
Matched up against St. John’s on Saturday, the Bulldogs kept the pace in the first half but were outscored 34-31 in the second for a tough 75-72 loss. Butler’s Bo Hodges topped the team on 22 points with seven rebounds.
Over on the Creighton side, they started the year on a 12-5 run with losses to Colorado State, Iowa State, Arizona State, Villanova and Xavier. The last four games have been a 1-3 run with losses to Butler, Xavier and Seton Hall.
On Friday versus Seton Hall, the Bluejays were blown out 16-37 in the first half. Creighton got better on a 39-37 run from there but still lost 74-55. Alex O’Connell was tops on the team with 12 points, seven rebounds, one assist and one steal.
The Bluejays are 7-2 ATS in their last nine Tuesday games and 5-1 ATS in their last six after an ATS loss. The under is 19-6-1 in their last 26 overall.
Meanwhile, the Bulldogs are 1-4 ATS in their last five Tuesday games and the over is 6-1-1 in their last eight overall. The over is 4-0 in Butler’s last four road games.
PICK: I’m going to stay with Butler here. Probably not touching this one though; neither team inspires much confidence right now. Still, the last time these teams met up back on January 26, the Bulldogs pulled off a 72-55 victory. Butler has gone just 1-2 since then, but their losses have come by a combined five points. As for Creighton, they haven’t been over 64 points in any of their last five games and will really need to get their offense going if they want to rebound. I think Butler will keep them in range here.
