The Butler Bulldogs and the Creighton Bluejays meet Friday in college basketball action from CenturyLink Center Omaha. Butler is currently 14-7 after a victory over Villanova over the weekend. As for Creighton, they’re coming off a win over DePaul that improved the Bluejays to 16-5 on the season. Let’s get into our Butler vs. Creighton prediction. Butler Bulldogs

The Bulldogs managed a nice 10-2 run to kick off the year, but then hit a rough 1-5 run that featured losses to Providence, St. John’s, UConn, Seton Hall and Xavier. Since then it’s been three straight wins however, as Butler has beaten DePaul, Georgetown and Villanova.

In the Villanova matchup on Saturday, the Bulldogs were behind 36-27 by the break but rallied to force overtime. After a 24-17 run in the second half Butler ended up with an 88-81 win. DJ Davis was the leading team score on 28 points and Jahmyl Telfort doubled on 22 points and 11 boards.

Creighton Bluejays

Over on the Creighton side, they lost four of their first 13 games this year, then hit a win streak versus Georgetown, Providence, DePaul and St. John’s. The Bluejays would then lose to UConn before notching wins over Seton Hall, Xavier and DePaul again in the next three.

In the rematch versus DePaul over the weekend, the Bluejays held a modest three-point lead by the break. Creighton woke up after halftime and hit a 45-25 run in an 85-62 victory by the end. Trey Alexander managed 23 points and Ryan Kalkbrenner added 22 points with 10 rebounds.

ANDREW’S FREE BUTLER VS CREIGHTON PREDICTION

I’ll lean toward Creighton. You could make a case either way here though; we should have a good matchup on our hands. The Bluejays didn’t have too many issues after the first half in their last game, eventually hitting 48.4 percent shooting with 41 rebounds. Creighton has now scored 69 or more points in six of the last eight games—they do have a couple of relative scoring duds in that stretch, though.

As for Butler, they’ve hit 69 or more points in all but one game this year (54 versus Michigan State) and look primed to notch another solid total in this one. These teams will meet again in mid-February, but for now I like Creighton to strike first.
