The DePaul Blue Demons and the Creighton Bluejays meet Saturday in college basketball action from CenturyLink Center Omaha. DePaul is coming off a Wednesday matchup with Marquette. In that one the Blue Demons fell to 3-16 this year with a loss. As for Creighton, they’re fresh off a Tuesday win over Xavier that improved the Bluejays to 15-5 this year. DePaul Blue Demons
The Blue Demons have started out on a rough run. They went just 3-9 over their first 12 games, taking wins over only South Dakota, Louisville and Chicago State in that time. DePaul would then lose to UConn, Georgetown, Creighton, Villanova, Providence and Butler over the next six outings.
In their Wednesday game versus Marquette, the Blue Demons were behind by 10 points after the first half and didn’t end up getting any closer on a 38-35 run from there in an 86-73 loss. Jalen Terry was the team’s leading scorer with his 22 points, six rebounds and three assists.
Creighton Bluejays
Over on the Creighton side there’s been better fortune. They took a 9-4 run through their first 13 games with losses to Colorado State, UNLV, Villanova and Marquette. The Bluejays have since won six of their last seven over Georgetown, Providence, DePaul, St. John’s, Seton Hall and Xavier.
Matched up against Xavier on Tuesday, the Bluejays trailed by one point going into the locker room. Creighton hit a 47-39 run in the second though, taking the win 85-78. Topping the team in the victory were Desmond Claude and Dayvion McKnight, each with 20 points and a combined five steals.
ANDREW’S FREE DEPAUL VS CREIGHTON PREDICTION
I’ll probably just stay with Creighton. The Bluejays started a little slow against a middling Xavier team in their last outing, and ended up with a 41-36 rebounding deficit (14-8). That said, Creighton hit a nice 49.1 percent from the field and had 15 team assists to help with the win. The Bluejays have scored a combined 182 points over their last two games, a welcome sight after scoring 67 or fewer in four of their previous seven outings.
As for DePaul, they haven’t been great on offense lately, and they’re also giving up quite a bit on the other side to capable offenses. Creighton should be fine cover-wise here if the Bluejays play to their capabilities.
