Nebraska went 3-1 over their first four games this year, beating Maine, Omaha and AR-Pine Bluff. After losses to Oklahoma and Memphis, the Cornhuskers beat Florida State and Boston College over the next pair.
In the Boston College game back on Wednesday, the Cornhuskers took a 37-34 edge into halftime. Nebraska hit a 51-33 run in the second and won 88-67. Leading scorer Keisei Tominaga had 23 points, and CJ Wilcher added 14 points.
Over on the Creighton side, they won six straight games over St. Thomas MN, North Dakota, Holy Cross, UC Riverside, Texas Tech and Arkansas to start out the season. The Bluejays lost to Arizona in game seven.
Creighton took another loss to Texas in their Thursday matchup. The Bluejays were down 32-27 by halftime and ultimately didn’t get closer in a 72-67 result. Ryan Kalkbrenner (20 points; 13 rebounds) and Baylor Scheierman (13 points; 11 rebounds) both doubled up.
PICK: I’ll probably stay with Creighton. The Bluejays are coming off a tough loss to Texas, shooting 40.9 percent from the field and just 4-of-27 (14.8 percent) from 3-point range. The good news is that Creighton was strong on the boards (44 rebounds) and had just eight turnovers. The Bluejays were competitive during their recent gauntlet of three straight ranked teams, but they only came away with one win.
As for Nebraska, they’re coming off a pair of nice outings with wins over Florida State and Boston College. Creighton is going to be a much tougher opponent however, and I don’t think the Cornhuskers will keep the cover pace.
