Creighton vs Providence 1/14/23 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Providence Friars and the Creighton Bluejays meet in college basketball action from the CHI Health Center Omaha on Saturday.

The Providence Friars will look to build on their nine-game win streak after an 83-80 win over St. John’s last time out. Bryce Hopkins leads the Friars in scoring and rebounding with 16 PPG and 9.1 RPG while Ed Croswell has 12.8 PPG with 7.1 RPG and Devin Carter has 13.2 PPG with 4.3 RPG. Noah Locke also has 10.1 PPG to cap off the group of double-digit scorers for Providence so far this season. Jared Bynum also has 9.1 PPG with a team-high 4.4 APG to lead the Friars in assists this season. As a team, Providence is averaging 79.9 PPG on 47.2% shooting from the field, 35% from three and 73% from the foul line this season.

The Creighton Bluejays will try to rebound from back-to-back losses after a 90-87 loss to Xavier last time out. Ryan Kalkbrenner leads the Bluejays in scoring with 14.8 PPG along with 6.9 RPG while Arthur Kaluma has 12.6 PPG with 6.3 RPG and Trey Alexander has 12.8 PPG with 4.2 RPG. Baylor Scheierman has 13.1 PPG with a team-high 8.9 RPG to lead the Bluejays on the glass and Ryan Nembhard has 11.8 PPG with a team-high 5.5 APG to lead the Bluejays in the assist department and to round out the group of double-digit scorers for Creighton up to this point in the year. As a team, Creighton is averaging 76.7 points per game on 46.5% shooting from the field, 35.8% from three point range and 72.5% from the foul line this season.

Providence is 4-0 ATS in their last 4 road games and 8-1 ATS in their last 9 games overall while the under is 4-1 in their last 5 games against a team with a winning record. Creighton is 2-7 ATS in their last 9 games overall and 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games against a team with a winning percentage above .600 while the under is 4-1 in their last 5 games against a team with a winning record.

I get the case to be made for Creighton at home in this one, but I’m taking Providence and the points. The Friars continue to run hot and while Creighton has been tough at home, they’ll be the toughest test the Bluejays have faced at home in some time. I’m not saying the Friars win another one outright, but this has the potential to be a two-point game. I’ll side with the Friars and the points here.
