The South Dakota Coyotes and the Creighton Bluejays meet Wednesday in college basketball action from CenturyLink Center Omaha. Here’s a Creighton vs South Dakota prediction. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best Creighton vs South Dakota pick.
South Dakota Coyotes Betting Preview
Last season the Coyotes were able to take a fairly sizable step forward from their 2023-24 campaign of 12-20 overall. South Dakota finished 19-14 last year, going 9-7 in Summit League games. That result would put the Coyotes in fifth place among the standings, behind Omaha, St. Thomas, South Dakota State and North Dakota State. The Coyotes finished off the regular season on a spotty 2-3 run but were able to take out North Dakota State in the first round of the Summit League Tournament. In the next outing versus Omaha however, South Dakota took a 100-75 defeat to finish off their campaign for good.
The Coyotes already have one game in the books so far this year, as they took on Utah Tech in Monday’s opener slate. South Dakota was able to force overtime following a one-point halftime deficit but eventually fell in a tough one 81-79 at Sanford Coyote Sports Center. South Dakota’s leading scorer Isaac Bruns finished with 23 points and three rebounds, while Evan Anderson also logged double-digits with 10 points, four rebounds and two assists. Vince Buzelis had 11 rebounds and eight points in the defeat, while Shey Eberwein chipped in with nine points and three rebounds in 18 minutes of action on the court.
Creighton Bluejays Betting Preview
Over on the Creighton side, they were able to match their win total from the 2023-24 season last year, going 25-11 overall. The Bluejays’ 15-5 run in the Big East put the team in second place, behind only St. John’s at 18-2. Creighton had a couple of spotty runs during the season, namely a three-game losing streak in late November. Following a 2-3 run in February/March, the Bluejays finished off the regular season with consecutive wins. After taking out DePaul and UConn in the conference tournament, Creighton lost to St. John’s in the final. The Bluejays were able to dispatch Louisville in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament before falling to Auburn in the Second Round on March 22 by a score of 82-70.
This year Creighton gets head coach Greg McDermott back for his 16th season with the school. The team has 10 consecutive 20-win seasons, which is tied with Houston and Oregon for fourth place nationally. The bad news is that the Bluejays will be without starters Steven Ashworth, Jamiya Neal and Ryan Kalkbrenner this season, but the team does retain a solid nucleus and some intriguing newcomers.

Creighton vs South Dakota Prediction
I’m likely just going to stay with Creighton. The Bluejays have a pretty rough schedule in the early-going this year. They’ve got games against Baylor, Iowa State, Gonzaga, Nebraska and Kansas looming very soon, so they’ll need to find some early chemistry in order to emerge intact from that gauntlet. The good news is that Creighton looks pretty deep and well-rounded on paper; they should be a force nationally once again in 2025-26. This is also a comfortable matchup to start out the campaign on solid footing.
As for South Dakota, they’re coming off a disappointing home loss on Monday. The Coyotes managed to shoot a tepid 37.9 percent overall and just 11.8 percent (2-of-17) from 3-point range in the loss to Utah Tech. The team was strong on the boards however, outmuscling the Trailblazers 43-40 in rebounding. Still, the difficulty will ramp up significantly in this second game and I don’t think the Coyotes have the goods to keep pace with a talented Creighton team coming out of the gate in their opener.
