The Villanova Wildcats and the Creighton Bluejays meet Wednesday in college basketball action from CenturyLink Center Omaha. Villanova halted a three-game losing streak with a victory over UCLA in their last game, moving the Wildcats to 7-4 overall. As for Creighton, they’re 9-2 on the season after a win over Alabama. Villanova Wildcats 

The Wildcats started out on a nice run this year, taking wins in six of their first seven games over American, Le Moyne, Maryland, Texas Tech, North Carolina and Memphis. Villanova would then drop the next three games however, falling to Saint Joseph’s, Drexel and Kansas State. 

In their latest matchup versus UCLA back on December 9, the Wildcats were able to stop the bleeding with a win. Villanova took a 29-25 deficit into the break but stormed back on 40 more points for a 65-56 outcome. Tyler Burton topped the team on 18 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double. 

Creighton Bluejays 

Over on the Creighton side, they were able to win eight of their first 10 games this season. Those victories came over Florida A&M, North Dakota State, Iowa, Texas Southern, Loyola Chicago, Oklahoma State, Nebraska and Central Michigan. The losses otherwise were versus Colorado State and UNLV. 

The Bluejays got back into the win column against Alabama back on Saturday, but this one was close. Creighton scored 44 points in the first half and 41 more after the break to power out an 85-82 victory. Leading the way was Trey Alexander on 22 points, four rebounds and two assists. 

ANDREW’S FREE VILLANOVA VS CREIGHTON PREDICTION 

I’ll try Villanova in this one. The Wildcats started pretty slow against UCLA in their last outing and only hit 32.8 percent from the field in their comeback win. Villanova did a nice job on the boards in that one (43 rebounds) though, and had just seven turnovers. Only one of the Wildcats’ losses this year has come by more than four points (78-65 versus St. Joseph’s), so they’ve been quite competitive overall. 

As for Creighton, they were able to hold off a pesky Alabama team on Saturday to avoid consecutive losses. The Bluejays have hit 79 or more points in all nine of their wins this year, so a high total will be a nice lift in a potential victory. I still like Villanova to stay in cover range, but it’ll be a fun matchup regardless.
