CSU Fullerton started out the year at a shaky 4-5, but then hit an eight-game win streak in December and January. The Titans went 2-3 over their next five games, falling to UC Riverside, Long Beach State and Hawaii in that stretch.
On Thursday versus UC Santa Barbara, the Titans held a 27-27 tie by the break. Cal State Fullerton hit a 40-31 run from there in a 67-58 victory. Tray Maddox topped the team on 15 points, and Jalen Harris added 12 points in 17 minutes.
Over on the CSU Northridge side, their year started out at 5-8. The Matadors would then start an ugly eight-game slide that lasted from January 13 to February 5. The next two games were wins over Cal Poly and CSU Bakersfield.
Matched up against Long Beach State on Thursday, the Matadors were drilled 29-40 in the first half. Cal State Northridge didn’t get any closer from there in a 72-59 loss. Fidelis Okereke led the way on his 14 points and 14 rebounds.
CSUN is 1-5 ATS in their last six at home and 9-3-1 ATS in their last 13 Saturday games. The over is 5-2 in the Matadors’ last seven Saturday games.
Meanwhile, the Titans are 4-1 ATS in the last five road games versus a team with a losing home record and the under is 6-1 in their last seven overall. The under is 10-1 in CSUF’s last 11 road games.
PICK: I’m going to stick with CSU Fullerton here. The Titans had a couple of rough outings recently versus Long Beach State and Hawaii, but they were able to power out a nice road win over UCSB in their last outing. These teams last met up back on January 13 when CSU Fullerton was in the middle of an eight-game win streak. The result was a 79-64 Titans victory at home. Playing yet another road game might be taxing on CSUF but I think they’re good enough to power out the cover.
