The Delaware Blue Hens and Davidson Wildcats meet Tuesday in college basketball action at the John M. Belk Arena. The Delaware Blue Hens won seven of 15 games and enter the sixth year under coach Martin Ingelsby. The Davidson Wildcats won 13 games last season and still have Bob McKillop as head coach.
The Delaware Blue Hens have won 73 games under coach Ingelsby in five seasons. Ryan Allen returns after averaging 15.3 points and 2.8 rebounds, while Dylan Painter averaged 13.5 points and 1.9 assists. Kevin Anderson is a third double-digit returning scorer, and Ebby Asamoah averaged 3.1 rebounds. The Delaware Blue Hens return pretty much all of last year’s roster, including three double-digit scorers and a walking double-double in Painter. Delaware has a chance to compete for a title in the CAA this season.
The Davidson Wildcats haven’t had a losing season since 2000-01. Hyunjung Lee returns after averaging 13.5 points and four rebounds, while Luka Brajkovic averaged 10.9 points and 1.8 assists. Mike Jones dished 1.2 assists per game, and Sam Mennenga averaged five rebounds. The Davidson Wildcats lose their best player in Kellan Grady, but they get back two double-digit scorers and have four seniors on this roster. Davidson also gets a Michigan State transfer in Foster Loyer. Davidson always seems to figure things out under coach McKillop.

The Davidson Wildcats are going to be favored for obvious reasons, as they’re given the benefit of the doubt because of their reputation. With that said, the Delaware Blue Hens have a loaded roster coming back in terms of production and this has a chance to be a season where they win the CAA. This is not a cupcake opening game for Davidson. I’ll take a shot with Delaware and the free buckets.
