The Old Dominion Monarchs and the Davison Wildcats meet Sunday in college basketball action from TD Arena. Old Dominion is 3-2 so far this year. The Monarchs beat Furman in their last game. Old Dominion’s season began with a big win over Maryland Eastern Shore 84-65 and a loss to Drexel 71-59. The Monarchs rebounded with a 72-58 win over VA Wesleyan then fell to Virginia Tech 75-71.
On Friday in their latest outing versus Furman, the Monarchs took a seven-point lead into the break. Old Dominion was outscored 50-48 in the second but held on for the 82-77 win. Tyreek Scott-Grayson put up 26 points and six assists.
Over on the Davidson side, they began their year on a nice run at 3-0. The victories in that stretch came courtesy of Guilford, Wright State and VMI. Back on Thursday the Wildcats took their first loss of the year 89-66 to Charleston.
On Friday in the South Carolina game, the Wildcats got back into the win column. Davidson was down four at halftime but surged in the second for a 69-60 comeback win. Foster Loyer topped the team on 18 points, and Sam Mennenga logged 15 points.
PICK: I’m probably going to take a stab on Davidson. The Wildcats posted a resilient effort in their last outing versus South Carolina. Davidson managed 44.8 percent shooting with 17 assists in the comeback win and probably gained some momentum for this upcoming matchup. As for Old Dominion, they’ve been scoring pretty well with 71 or more points in four of their five games. I like this one to be a relatively high-scoring affair as well.
