The UConn Huskies and the Dayton Flyers meet Wednesday in college basketball action from Lahaina Civic Center. Here’s a Dayton vs UConn prediction. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best Dayton vs UConn pick.
UConn Huskies Betting Preview
The Huskies got off to a promising start this year through a series of four soft games. UConn took out Sacred Heart 92-56, New Hampshire 92-53, Le Moyne 90-49 and East Texas A&M 81-46 before a sobering 99-97 loss to Memphis on Monday.
UConn’s woes continued in the Tuesday game versus Colorado. The Huskies had an eight-point edge at the break but wore down as the game went on in an eventual loss 73-72. Liam McNeeley posted 20 points in the losing effort, and Solo Ball had 16 points with two boards.
Dayton Flyers Betting Preview
Over on the Dayton side, they posted five straight wins in their first quintet of outings. Those came versus St. Francis PA, Northwestern, Ball State, Capital and New Mexico State. The last two games have been losses to North Carolina and Iowa State, though.
In Tuesday’s game versus Iowa State, Dayton was up 41-37 by the break. The Flyers were outscored 52-43 in the second half however, resulting in an 89-84 defeat. Malachi Smith led the team on 22 points with nine assists and three rebounds in the losing effort.
Dayton vs UConn Prediction
I’m likely going to go with Dayton. The Flyers did fairly well against a good Iowa State team on Tuesday, all things considered. Dayton shot a nice 59.2 percent from the field in the close loss, notching a 31-28 rebounding advantage and 17 assists. The 11 turnovers didn’t help however, nor did the 19-of-26 (73.1 percent) on free throws. The Flyers also gave up 51.7 percent shooting on the other side. That makes a combined 191 points allowed in the last pair, but Dayton only lost those games by a combined seven points.
As for UConn, I’ve lost all trust in them over the past two outings. The Huskies have continued to score well in their pair of losses, and they notched a nice 48.1 percent from the field versus Colorado. Problem is, UConn coughed up 51.1 percent shooting from the field, 56.3 percent (9-of-16) from 3-point range AND got out-rebounded 34-28 (12-8 offensive) by the Buffaloes. That comes on the heels of giving up 54.7 percent shooting to Memphis in the Monday defeat. The Huskies seem like they’re simply gassed out right now, so I can’t put any faith in a potential cover.
