George Washington managed an ugly 4-10 record over their first 14 games this year but they’ve improved since then. The Colonials are currently on a 5-3 stretch with wins over George Mason, Rhode Island, Fordham, La Salle and UMass in that time.
On Wednesday versus UMass, the Colonials hit a 43-38 advantage by halftime and cruised to the 77-68 win with 34 second-half points. George Washington’s James Bishop was the top scorer with 24 points and three assists to his credit.
Over on the Dayton side, their year started out a spotty 8-6. The Flyers have gone 8-2 in their last 10 games, however. Dayton has taken out Fordham, Rhode Island, VCU and Duquesne over their last five outings.
In the Wednesday matchup versus Duquesne, the Flyers put up 35 points in the first half and 40 more from there in a 75-54 blowout victory. Top scorer Kobe Elvis managed 13 points, and Toumani Camara added 10 points with two boards.
Dayton is 5-0 ATS in their last five versus a team with a losing straight-up record and the under is 8-1 in their last nine home games. The under is 4-1 in the Flyers’ last five after an ATS win.
Meanwhile, the Colonials are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 on Saturday and 6-13 ATS in their last 19 road games. George Washington is 6-0 ATS in the last six overall.
PICK: I’m going to stay with Dayton here. The Flyers have looked pretty good during this 8-2 run. They’ve hit 68 or more points in seven of their eight wins in that time so the offense is clicking nicely. The last time these teams met up back on January 8, Dayton put up a dominant 83-58 road win. George Washington is looking better these days so this rematch likely won’t be such a blowout. That said I still like Dayton to power out the cover.
