The VCU Rams and the Dayton Flyers meet in college basketball action from the UD Arena on Friday night.
The VCU Rams will look to build on a 78-64 win over Loyola-Chicago last time out. Adrian Baldwin Jr. has a team-high 13.3 PPG and 6.4 APG to lead VCU in scoring and assists over his 12 games while Brandon Johns Jr. has 12.4 PPG with 5.3 RPG and Jamir Watkins has 10.9 PPG with 5 RPG to cap off the trio of double-digit scorers for VCU this season. Jayden Nunn has 9.2 PPG and Jalen DeLoach also has a 9.6 PPG and a team-high 6.6 RPG to lead the Rams on the glass so far this season. As a team, VCU is averaging 71.1 PPG on 45.4% shooting from the field, 34.9% from three and 70.9% from the foul line this season.
The Dayton Flyers will try to build on their seven-game win streak after an 82-58 win over Fordham in their last matchup. DaRon Holmes II leads the Flyers in scoring with 19.8 PPG along with 8.3 RPG while Mustapha Amzil has 10.4 PPG with 5.1 RPG and Toumani Camara also has 11.6 PPG and a team-high 9.2 RPG to lead the Flyers on the glass up to this point in the season. Mike Sharavjamts also has a team-high 3.1 APG as well this season. As a team, Dayton is averaging 68.5 points per game on 46.8% shooting from the field, 32.2% from three and 69.6% from the foul line this season.
VCU is 1-6 ATS in their last 7 road games and 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games against a team with a winning percentage above .600 while the over is 4-0 in their last 4 games overall. Dayton is 7-0 ATS in their last 7 games overall and 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games against a team with a winning percentage above .600 while the over is 11-3 in their last 14 games against a team with a winning record.
The Rams have definitely had a nice run lately, and getting this many points with VCU is tempting considering how well they play on the defensive end of the floor. However, this Dayton team is really good as well, and I’d argue that Dayton’s had the better run against tougher opposition. We’ve also seen VCU have issues on the road this season and I think this game could see more of the same. Give me Dayton laying the points.
