The Virginia Tech Hokies and the Dayton Flyers meet in college hoops action from the UD Arena on Sunday afternoon.
The Virginia Tech Hokies come into this one on the heels of a 93-60 beatdown win over Cornell last time out. Keve Aluma leads the Hokies in scoring with 14.4 PPG along with 6.4 RPG while Naheim Alleyne has 12 PPg with 2.8 APG and Justyn Mutts has 10.3 PPG with team-highs of 7.1 RPG and 3.1 APG to make up the trio of double-digit scorers for Virginia Tech so far this season. The Dayton Flyers will be looking to bounce back from a 77-69 loss at the hands of SMU in their last game. Elijah Weaver leads the Flyers in scoring with 11.2 PPG while Daron Holmes II has 10.4 PPG with 5.1 RPg and Toumani Camara has 10 PPG with a team-high 6.4 RPG to lead the Flyers on the glass and cap off the trio of double-digit scorers for Dayton so far this season. Virginia Tech is 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games overall and 5-11 ATS in their last 16 road games while the over is 3-1-1 in their last 5 road games. Dayton is 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games overall and 8-3 ATS in their last 11 games following a loss while the under is 5-1 in their last 6 Sunday games.
Once again, I think this matchup boils down to which Dayton we are going to see. Do we see the Dayton that beat Belmont, Kansas and Miami? Or the Dayton that couldn’t keep up with SMU last time out and has losses to UMASS, Lipscomb and Austin Peay at home this season? I’m inclined to think the latter against a Virginia Tech team that’s already proven they can go on the road and win this season with victories over Navy and Maryland. IT’s going to be a tight one, but in the end I like the Hokies to bag a win and cover in this one.
