South Carolina State got off to an ugly 1-7 start this year with a lone win over St. Andrews. The Bulldogs have been on an 8-3 run since then, however. After losses to Coppin State and Morgan State, SC State has taken out Morris and MD Eastern Shore.
In the matchup versus Maryland Eastern Shore on Saturday, the Bulldogs posted a 37-33 edge in the first half and a 32-27 run from there in a 69-60 win. Leading the way was Jamel Davis with 16 points, eight rebounds and a pair of steals.
Over on the Delaware State side, they hit a 2-2 run in their first four games this year with wins over Cairn University and Regent University. It’s been an 11-game losing streak since then, however. The Hornets’ most recent loss was to NC Central on Saturday.
In the NC Central game over the weekend, the Hornets couldn’t find any offense. Delaware State scored just 23 second-half points in a 73-49 blowout loss. Myles Carter was the leading scorer on 13 points, seven rebounds and two assists.
The Hornets are 3-14 ATS in their last 17 after a straight-up loss and 0-7 ATS in the last seven after an ATS loss. Delaware State is 5-16 ATS in their last 21 overall.
Meanwhile, the Bulldogs are 2-6 ATS in their last eight Monday games and 6-1-1 ATS in their last eight road games. SC State is 10-3 ATS in their last 13 after an ATS win.
PICK: I’m going to stay with South Carolina State. Over this recent 6-2 run, the Bulldogs have scored pretty well. They’ve hit 69 or more points in seven of those eight games and have generally been quite competitive since December. As for Delaware State, they’re having lots of offensive issues these days. The Hornets have been at 65 points or fewer in each of the last 11 games. If that trend continues, SC State shouldn’t have much trouble covering here.
