The Stony Brook Seawolves and the Delaware Blue Hens meet Friday in CAA Tournament college basketball action from Entertainment and Sports Arena. Here’s a Delaware vs Stony Brook prediction. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best Delaware vs Stony Brook pick.

Stony Brook Seawolves Betting Preview

It’s been a tough season for the Seawolves so far, with only a handful of scattered wins on the card. Stony Brook went 2-2 in their first quartet of outings, then fell to Yale, Columbia, Brown, Norfolk State, and Air Force in the next five. After a 2-1 run with wins over Rider and Maine, the Seawolves lost to Albany, Monmouth, William & Mary, Drexel, Northeastern, Delaware, Towson, and Campbell. A 2-7 run came in the next nine games with wins over North Carolina A&T and Hofstra among losses to Charleston, UNC Wilmington, Towson, Monmouth, Northeastern, North Carolina A&T, and Hampton. Since then it’s been consecutive wins over Hofstra and Elon for Stony Brook, bringing the team to 8-23 overall across 31 games so far this year.

In the Saturday matchup with Elon, the Seawolves opened the game with a 38-29 advantage. Stony Brook was outscored 37-33 the rest of the way and took the win in the end 71-66. Leading the team in scoring was CJ Luster with 24 points, four assists, and three rebounds in 40 minutes of work. Andre Snoddy also finished in double-figures with 15 points, 14 rebounds, and five assists, while Quin Gorman led the bench on nine points with three rebounds in 21 minutes on the floor during the victory effort.

Delaware Blue Hens Betting Preview

Over on the Delaware side, they’ve had a couple of solid runs this year but overall it’s been a struggle in the record column. The Hens did kick things off with a 7-4 start though, beating Robert Morris, Iona, Yale, Rider, Delaware State, Chestnut Hill, and Misericordia in that time. A 4-4 run came next with wins over Monmouth, North Carolina A&T, Stony Brook, and Elon among losses to Saint Peter’s, St. John’s, Northeastern, and Hampton. Since then Delaware has just one win over William & Mary. Otherwise, it’s been losses to Hofstra, Drexel, Towson, Monmouth, UNC Wilmington, Towson, Campbell, Drexel, Hofstra, Charleston, and UNC Wilmington during that stretch, giving the Blue Hens a 12-19 record in 31 games this year.

In the Saturday matchup versus UNC Wilmington, the Blue Hens were blitzed 44-28 in the first half. Delaware didn’t get any closer on a 44-30 second half and ended up falling in blowout fashion 88-58. John Camden led the team with 18 points with seven rebounds and two steals in the defeat. The only other player on the team to finish in double-figures was Cavan Reilly with 12 points, one rebound, one assist, and one steal in 30 minutes. Tops off the bench was Trent Middleton with seven points and five rebounds in 27 minutes of action on the floor.

Delaware vs Stony Brook Prediction

I might take a stab at Stony Brook, but you could argue it either way. We’ll likely have a fairly competitive matchup here, even if there’s not a lot of intrigue involved. The Seawolves beat a decent Elon team in their last game thanks to 45 percent shooting and 16 points scored off 12 turnovers. Stony Brook was pretty miserable from the line though (7-of-17 for 41.2 percent) and got out-rebounded 38-34. Still, that’s consecutive wins for the Seawolves with fewer than 67 points allowed in each.

The bad news for Stony Brook is that they lost 84-74 in a road game the last time these teams met up back on January 16. The Seawolves weren’t great at rebounding in that one either (a 39-27 deficit) and gave up 50 percent shooting. Stony Brook needs a better physical game Friday or they’re going to get bounced quickly.
