South Dakota posted a 7-7 run over their first 14 games this year, then hit a five-game win streak in January. The Coyotes would go 1-3 in their next four games, falling to North Dakota State, South Dakota State and North Dakota State again in that stretch.
On Thursday versus Omaha, South Dakota didn’t have much trouble. The Coyotes scored 49 points in the first half and 42 in the second during a 91-69 blowout win. Top scorer Tasos Kamateros put up 20 points with eight rebounds.
Over on the Denver side, they’ve had a rough time staying consistent this year and have won consecutive games just once so far. Heading into Thursday’s matchup the Pioneers had a 1-3 stretch as well, with losses to UMKC, Oral Roberts and North Dakota State.
Matched up against South Dakota State on Thursday, the Pioneers went into halftime tied at 35 apiece. Denver was drilled 26-49 from there in an 84-61 defeat. Leading scorer Coban Porter put up 18 points with three boards and two assists in 36 minutes.
The Pioneers are 4-1 ATS in their last five Saturday games and 1-4 ATS in the last five at home. The over is 6-2 in Denver’s last eight at home.Â
Meanwhile, the Coyotes are 5-0 ATS in their last five road games and 5-2 ATS in their last seven after an ATS win. The over is 9-4 in South Dakota’s last 13 road games.Â
PICK: I’m probably going to stay with South Dakota. The Coyotes have had a couple of tough results among their last three losses, but generally the team is playing well these days. The last time these squads met up was back on January 13 in an 80-71 South Dakota home win. The Coyotes haven’t had a ton of issues scoring since then, so this matchup should be a pretty high-flying affair as well. All in all though, I think the Coyotes have the inside track on a cover.Â
