The Texas A&M-Commerce Lions and the Denver Pioneers meet in college basketball action from the Hamilton Gymnasium on Sunday afternoon.
The Texas A&M-Commerce Lions will try to add to their three-game win streak after a 53-51 win over Hawaii in their last game. Demarcus Demonia leads the Lions in scoring and rebounding with 16.4 PPG and 5 RPG while Kalen Williams also has 10.5 PPG as the only other double-digit scorer for the Lions so far this season. CJ Roberts also has 9.9 PPG with a team-high 3 APG to lead the Lions in assists so far this season. As a team, Texas A&M Commerce is averaging 69.5 PPG on 41.8% shooting from the field, 28% from three and 64.3% from the foul line this season.
The Denver Pioneers will hope to add to their five-game win streak after a 93-83 win over Houston Christian last time out. Tevin Smith leads the Pioneers in scoring with 14.5 PPG while Tommy Bruner has 13.8 PPG with a team-high 3.9 APG to lead the Pioneers in assists this season. Tyree Corbett has 13.4 PPG with a team-high 9.4 RPG to lead the Pioneers in rebounding while Touko Tainamo and Justin Mullins each have 10.4 PPG with Tainamo logging 7.4 RPG as well this season. As a team, Denver is averaging 78.4 PPG on 53.2% shooting from the field, 33.7% from three and 70% from the foul line this season.
Texas A&M-Commerce is 5-0-1 ATS in their last 6 games overall and 4-0-1 ATS in their last 5 road games. Denver is 0-6 ATS in their last 6 home games while the over is 4-0 in their last 4 games following an ATS win.
I’d be lying if I said I was impressed with the Lions’ numbers after playing a pair of subdivision opponents but the thing here is that outside of those games, the Lions are actually competitive in making the jump this season and they keep finding ways to cover the number. Denver’s got more potential offensively without saying, but the defense does lack a little and could be the difference between getting the cover or not. I’ll lean towards Texas A&M-Commerce here.
