The Creighton Bluejays and the DePaul Blue Demons meet Thursday in college basketball action from Wintrust Arena. Creighton is currently 16-8 this year and fresh off a win over Georgetown. Creighton hit a 12-5 run to open the season, then skidded on a 1-3 stretch with losses to Butler, Xavier and Seton Hall. The last three games have all been wins for the Bluejays; they’ve beaten Butler and Georgetown (twice) in that time.
In the Monday rematch versus the Hoyas, the Bluejays posted 48 points in the first half and 40 more in the second on the way to a nice 88-77 victory. Alex O’Connell led the team with his 27 points, three rebounds and five assists.
Over on the DePaul side, they began the year on a nice 9-1 clip but things have been pretty rough since then. The Blue Demons have won just three gams since December 14. They’re coming off a pair of losses to Providence and Butler since their last victory.
Matched up against Butler on Tuesday, the Demons kept the pace the whole game but unfortunately fell victim to a late 3-pointer in a 73-71 loss. All five DePaul starters finished in double-figures, including David Jones on 17 points and four boards.
The Demons are 4-1 ATS in their last five at home and 4-1 ATS in their last five Thursday games. DePaul is 4-1 ATS in their last five overall.
Meanwhile, the Bluejays are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 Thursday games and the under is 6-2 in their last eight Thursday games. The under is 20-8-1 in Creighton’s last 29 overall.
PICK: I’m going to stay with Creighton. The Bluejays have had mixed results in some of these conference games, but for the most part they’re holding their own against comparable teams. Creighton has hit 80 or more points in consecutive games after failing to pass 60 in the previous trio. The last time these teams met up on January 22, Creighton managed a 60-47 win. I like this one to be a higher-scoring game, with the Bluejays powering out a cover.
