The Providence Friars and the Depaul Blue Demons meet in college basketball action from the Wintrust Arena on Sunday afternoon.
The Providence Friars will try to build on their six-game win streak after a 72-52 road win over Butler last time out. Bryce Hopkins leads the Friars in scoring and rebounding with 15.9 PPG and 9.6 RPG while Ed Croswell has 13.3 PPG with 6.9 RPG and Devin Carter has 12.3 PPG with 4.4 RPG to cap off the group of double-digit scorers for Providence so far this season. Jared Bynum also has 9.1 PPG with a team-high 4.9 APG to lead the Friars in assists this season. As a team, Providence is averaging 80.6 PPG on 47.5% shooting from the field, 33.1% from three and 73.5% from the foul line this season.
The Depaul Blue Demons will be out to build on an 83-76 win over Georgetown last time out. Javan Johnson has leads the Blue Demons in scoring with 16.8 PPG and 5 RPG while Umoja Gibson has 15.9 PPG with a team-high 5.1 APG to lead the Blue Demons in assists and Eral Penn has 11 PPG with a team-high 7.5 RPG to lead the Blue Demons on the glass and to cap off the trio of double-digit scorers for Depaul up to this point in the season. As a team, Depaul is averaging 72.8 PPG on 41.4% shooting from the field, 36.3% from three and 79.4% from the foul line this season.
Providence is 6-0 ATS in their last 6 games overall and 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games following a win while the over is 6-1 in their last 7 games overall. Depaul is 11-5-1 ATS in their last 17 games following a win and 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games following an ATS win while the over is 19-7 in their last 26 home games.
I get the case to be made for either side in this game, but I’m backing Providence in this one. The Friars have quietly built up a nice win streak while the Blue Demons got a win over Georgetown, but more often than not, the Blue Demons play well out of conference and fall apart once Big East play starts. I expect more of the same here as Providence extends their win streak with a win and cover here.
