Detroit vs Western Michigan 12/11/21 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Western Michigan Broncos and the Detroit Titans meet Saturday in college basketball action from Calihan Hall. Western Michigan is 3-5 so far this year and coming off a loss to Valparaiso. Western Michigan hit a 1-4 skid in their first five games, falling to Michigan State, Saginaw Valley, Iowa and FGCU. The Broncos got wins over Fort Wayne and SE Louisiana in the next pair, then lost to Valparaiso back on Sunday. 

In the loss to Valparaiso, Western Michigan was down by just two at the break but couldn’t get any closer than that in an eventual 71-60 defeat. Lamar Norman was the top scorer on 13 points, two rebounds and two assists. 

Over on the Titans’ side, they lost six straight versus Wyoming, Toledo, Mississippi State, Louisville, Hofstra and Northeastern to start the year. After wins over IUPUI and UIC, Detroit lost to Kent State on Thursday. 

The Titans scored just 22 points in the first half of the Kent State game, then posted a 41-30 deficit in the second half in a 69-52 loss. Leading scorer Antoine Davis put up 19 points with seven assists and six rebounds. 

The Titans are 4-0-1 ATS in their last five at home and 5-2-1 ATS in their last eight Saturday games. The under is 4-0 in Detroit’s last four overall. 

Meanwhile, the Broncos are 3-8 ATS in their last 11 versus a team with a losing straight-up record and 4-1 ATS in the last five after an ATS loss. The under is 12-4 in Western Michigan’s last 16 Saturday games. 

PICK: I’m going to try Western Michigan, but probably staying away. There’s not much to like here. The Broncos have been wildly inconsistent on the scoreboard this year, but the good news is that they’ve hit 81 or more in two of their last three. That said, WMU is coming off a pretty flat effort against Valparaiso. 

As for Detroit, they haven’t hit 70 points in any of their last four games. The Titans didn’t look great in their Thursday game either. Oddly enough this should be a pretty good matchup and a competitive game, though. I like the Broncos slightly better on a cover, but it feels like coin-flip territory.
