The Lamar Cardinals and the Dixie State Trailblazers meet Thursday in college basketball action from Burns Arena. Lamar is 2-15 on the season so far. The Cardinals lost to Stephen F. Lamar won their first game over Wiley this year, but didn’t see another victory until December 5 versus Our Lady of the Lake. It’s been losses to UT Arlington, Texas State, Texas A&M-CC, UL Monroe, Sam Houston (twice), Chicago State and Stephen F. Austin since then.
In Monday’s game versus Stephen F. Austin, the Cardinals had a 43-37 lead at halftime. Lamar was outscored 49-35 from there in an 86-78 loss, though. Leading the way for the Cardinals was CJ Roberts with 20 points and two assists.
Over on the Dixie State side, they started at 1-5 but then hit a six-game win streak to get back above .500 for the year. It’s been another 1-5 stretch since then with losses to Southern Utah, Tarleton, Abilene Christian, Utah Valley and Seattle U.
In the Seattle U game, the Trailblazers were down 44-26 by halftime. Dixie State got better from there but still lost 79-68. Hunter Schofield led the team on 25 points with eight rebounds, and Cameron Gooden chipped in 10 points and five assists.
Dixie State is 2-5-1 ATS in their last eight as an underdog and 2-5 ATS in their last seven after a straight-up loss. The over is 7-1 in Dixie’s last eight after a straight-up loss.
Meanwhile, the Cardinals are 7-2-1 ATS in their last 10 after an ATS win and the over is 10-3 in their last 13 road games. The over is 6-1-1 in Lamar’s last eight Thursday games.
PICK: I’m going to take a stab on Dixie State. Probably staying away, though; there’s not much to get excited about here. The Trailblazers have had it rough on a 1-5 run lately, but there were some bright spots mixed in there. Dixie State has hit 68 or more points in four of their last five games. As for Lamar, they’re struggling as well and have hit 64 points or below in three of their last four. This should be a competitive matchup if nothing else.
