Nevada Wolf Pack
The Wolf Pack have been rolling along very well so far this year; just one of the team’s seven wins has come by single-digits. In succession, Nevada took out Sacramento State, Washington (an 83-76 finish), Pacific, Portland, Montana and Loyola Marymount over their first half-dozen matchups.
Matched up against UC Davis on Wednesday, Nevada made it seven wins in a row to start the season. The Wolf Pack held a modest 29-27 lead at the break then surged on 51 more points in an 80-68 result. Leading the team in scoring was Kenan Blackshear with 25 points, four rebounds and three assists.
Drake Bulldogs
Over on the Drake side, they’re doing well this year also. The Bulldogs’ lone blemish came on November 20 versus Stephen F. Austin (92-68). Otherwise, Drake has dispatched Lipscomb, Southwest Minnesota State, Oakland, Akron, Texas Southern, Valparaiso, Missouri State and Saint Louis in their first nine outings.
In the matchup versus the Billikens, the Bulldogs were in trouble at halftime with a 41-25 deficit. Drake stormed back with a 50-28 run in the second however, ultimately pulling off the 75-69 victory. Atin Wright was the top team scorer on 22 points, while Kevin Overton added 21 points with four boards.
ANDREW’S FREE NEVADA VS DRAKE PREDICTION
I’ll stick with Nevada. You could make a case either way, though; this should be a pretty fun matchup. The Wolf Pack started a little slow versus UC Davis in their last game but ended up bagging the win on a 36-31 rebounding advantage. Nevada has scored well all year, posting 73 or more points in all seven games.
As for Drake, they should score pretty well in this one also—the Bulldogs really need to start better than they did against Saint Louis, though. Drake has managed 74 or more points in all eight wins this season so we should see a high-total finish. I like Nevada to power out the cover but it’ll be close regardless.
