The Fairleigh Dickinson Knights and the Drexel Dragons meet Thursday in college basketball action from John A. Daskalakis Center. Fairleigh Dickinson is still looking for their first win of the year and coming off a loss to Manhattan. As for Drexel, they’re 3-3 so far and lost to Jacksonville State in their last game. Fairleigh Dickinson hasn’t had any luck in the win column so far this year. The Knights have taken losses to Seton Hall, Northwestern, St. John’s, NJIT, Princeton and Manhattan in succession this season.
In the Manhattan game, Fairleigh Dickinson had a 41-35 halftime lead but faded from there in an eventual 78-73 result. Leading scorer John Square put up 19 points with seven rebounds and two assists in the defeat.
Over on the Dragons’ side, they got a big win over Neumann in their opener and alternated wins and losses from there. The defeats were courtesy of Syracuse, Tulane and Jacksonville State; the wins were over St. Joseph’s and Charlotte.
In the Jacksonville State defeat, Drexel had an edge at the break but were done in by a 43-32 deficit in the second half in a 72-64 loss. Both James Butler and Malik Martin scored 14 points apiece with a combined 10 rebounds.
The Dragons are 7-3-1 ATS in their last 11 home games and 6-0 ATS in their last six after a straight-up loss. Drexel is 7-0 ATS in their last seven after an ATS loss.
Meanwhile, the Knights are 1-4 ATS in their last five after an ATS win and 5-2 ATS in their last seven after a straight-up loss. The under is 21-7 in FDU’s last 28 Thursday games.
PICK: I’m going to try the Knights in this one, but probably not going near it. The Dragons had a limp second half in their loss versus Jacksonville State, ultimately shooting 43.9 percent with a 33-25 rebounding deficit. Drexel posted 12 turnovers and 15 fouls in the loss.
As for FDU, they faded down the stretch in their last game as well, with 42.9 percent shooting and trailing 38-33 in rebounding. It was probably the Knights’ best game of the year though, and if they can build off that they’ll be in good shape.
