The Rhode Island Rams and the Duquesne Dukes meet Saturday in college basketball action from Palumbo Center.
Rhode Island enters this one at 10-13 so far. The Rams are 1-1 in their last pair and coming off a loss to George Washington. As for Duquesne, they’re 7-8 this season. The Dukes have lost consecutive games to Richmond and La Salle. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.
Rhode Island has hovered around the .500 mark for most of the season, but they haven’t been able to get over the proverbial hump. The Rams are 1-5 in their last six games. After a double-overtime win over Dayton, Rhode Island lost to George Washington on Sunday.
In the 78-70 loss to George Washington, Rhode Island’s Ishmael Leggett led the team with 16 points and four rebounds. Daron Russell nearly tripled up for the Rams in that one with his 14 points, 10 assists and nine rebounds in 33 minutes of work.
Over on the Dukes’ side, they’ve flirted with a .500 mark for most of the season as well. After a three-game win streak over Fordham, Saint Joseph’s and Dayton coming into February, Duquesne has lost their last pair of games to Richmond and La Salle.
In the 85-65 loss to La Salle on Wednesday, Duquesne’s Marcus Weathers put up 23 points with four rebounds and three assists. Both Toby Okani and Andre Harris notched 11 points apiece, combining for two assists and four rebounds as well.
Duquesne is 6-1 ATS in their last seven overall and 4-0 ATS in their last four home games. The Dukes are 4-1 ATS in their last five Saturday games and the over is 4-1 in their last five overall.
Meanwhile, the Rams are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 Saturday games and 5-2 ATS in their last seven after an ATS loss. Rhode Island is 1-7 ATS in their last eight versus a team with a losing straight-up record and the under is 6-2 in their last eight overall.
PICK: I’m going to stick with Rhode Island in this one, but probably staying away. The last time these teams met up, the Dukes won 71-69. Rhode Island had a 13-point lead at the break, but lost it with an abysmal second half deficit of 40-25. The Rams shot just 38.1 percent in that one and couldn’t hang on. I like the Rams to play better in this rematch and bang out a cover.
