The Wofford Terriers and the Duquesne Dukes meet Wednesday in college basketball action from Palumbo Center. Wofford is 8-4 so far this year. The Terriers beat Presbyterian in their last game. Wofford started out the year at 5-3 with wins over Bob Jones, Erskine, Hampton, GA Southern and Georgia. Since then it’s been a 3-1 run with a loss to Coastal Carolina mixed with wins over Kennesaw State, Gardner-Webb and Presbyterian.
In the Presbyterian matchup back on Saturday, the Terriers posted a 31-20 edge in the first half and scored 45 more from there in a 76-49 blowout win. Max Klesmit was tops on 21 points, and Isaiah Bigelow added 14 points with four boards.
Over on the Dukes’ side, they managed a 3-5 record after eight games this year, losing to Hofstra, Weber State, Northeastern, Colorado and Bowling Green. After losses to Marshall and DePaul, Duquesne took out New Hampshire and UC Irvine.
On Sunday in the UC Irvine game, Duquesne scored 38 points in each half to power out a 76-54 victory. Leon Ayers logged 24 points with six rebounds, and Kevin Easley added 12 points and 10 boards.
The Dukes are 2-6 ATS in their last eight at home and 1-4 ATS in the last five after an ATS win. Duquesne is 1-4 ATS in their last five after a straight-up win.
Meanwhile, the Terriers are 2-7 ATS in their last nine Wednesday games and the under is 12-4 in their last 16 road games. The under is 5-1 in Wofford’s last six road games as a favorite.
PICK: I’m going to stick with Wofford here. The Terriers have posted a pretty solid offensive rhythm in their last four games, with 76 or more points in three of those (a 60-59 loss to Coastal being the outlier). Wofford has scored well this year, and they’ve been on the other side of 70 points more often than not.
As for Duquesne, they’ve played better in their last couple of games and should be able to hang around for a while here. Ultimately I think the Terriers will outlast them on a cover, though.
