Little Rock kicked off their 2022-23 season with a matchup versus Southern Illinois. That one didn’t go very well and ended up a 94-63 Trojans loss. Little Rock got into the win column after their second game versus Arkansas Baptist.
In game three against Central Arkansas back on Monday, the Trojans were down 37-30 by the break. Little Rock scored 41 points in the second during an 82-71 loss. Nigel John scored 14 points to lead the team, and Myron Gardner added 12 points with 14 boards.
Over on the East Tennessee State side, they opened up the year with a very manageable matchup against Emory & Henry. The Buccaneers won 88-66. East Tennessee State kept it going with a 77-64 win over Elon in game two.
In their third outing of the year versus Louisiana, East Tennessee State fell behind 42-28 by the break. The Bucs were better in the second half but still lost 81-77. Jalen Haynes led the way on 23 points. Josh Taylor doubled up on 13 points and 10 boards as well.
PICK: I’m going to stay with East Tennessee State. Outside of the first half in the Louisiana game (42-28 disadvantage), the Buccaneers have been playing great basketball so far. East Tennessee State shot 43.5 percent from the field in their loss, but also posted a dismal 3-of-16 (18.8 percent) from 3-point range. As for Little Rock, they’ve shot pretty well in their last couple of games. I don’t think the Trojans can keep the cover pace if ETSU is on point, however.
