The Samford Bulldogs and the East Tennessee State Buccaneers meet Wednesday in college basketball action from Freedom Hall Civic Center. Samford is sitting at 12-7 overall. The Bulldogs beat Chattanooga in their last game. As for East Tennessee State, they’re 7-12 this season after a loss to Mercer on Saturday. Samford was 7-7 through 14 games, beating Anderson SC, Spring Hill, Belhaven, Alabama A&M, TX Southern, Valparaiso and Mercer. The Bulldogs have since beaten the Citadel, VMI, UNCG, Wofford and Chattanooga.
On Saturday versus Chattanooga, then Bulldogs were down 45-31 at halftime. Samford stormed back on a 44-29 run from there and won it 75-74. Logan Dye topped the team with 23 points and six rebounds.
East Tennessee State Buccaneers
Over on the East Tennessee State side, they were 5-9 after 14 games with wins over Emory & Henry, Elon, Little Rock, Mars Hill and Wofford. The Buccaneers are 2-3 since then with losses to Western Carolina, Furman and Mercer.
Matched up against Mercer on Saturday, the Buccaneers trailed by three points going into the break. East Tennessee State was outscored 37-27 from there and lost 68-55. Justice Smith was the top team scorer on 17 points.

I’ll probably stick with Samford in this one. The Bulldogs are currently riding a nice six-game win streak and they’re fresh off a comeback win over a pretty good Chattanooga team. Samford has scored 70 or more points in all six of those games; if they can keep that run going I don’t think the Bulldogs will have too many issues here. As for East Tennessee State, they’ve managed 64 or fewer points in four of their last five games. I don’t think the Buccaneers will keep pace in this one for too long.
