The Charlotte 49ers and the Eastern Kentucky Colonels meet in the CBI Tournament championship game in college basketball action from the Ocean Center on Wednesday.
Charlotte 49ers Team Recap
The Charlotte 49ers booked their spot in the championship game thanks to a 63-56 win over Radford in their semifinal. Brice Williams led the charge with 14 points along with 11 rebounds and 3 assists for the double-double while LuCye Patterson added 13 points and Isaiah Folkes chipped in 11 points on 5 of 7 shooting to cap off the trio of double-digit scorers for Charlotte in the winning effort. Aly Khalifa also added 6 points with 7 rebounds and a team-high 5 assists to lead the 49ers in the assist department in the win.
Eastern Kentucky Colonels
The Eastern Kentucky Colonels will try to hoist the trophy after a thrilling 108-106 double overtime win over Southern Utah in their semifinal matchup. Isaiah Cozart led EKU with 31 points on 14 of 17 shooting with 13 rebounds for the double-double while Devontae Blanton added 24 points on 10 of 21 shooting with 4 steals and Leland Walker added 16 points with 5 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals off of the bench. Tayshawn Comer added 15 points with 6 rebounds and a team-high 5 assists and Cooper Robb chipped in 14 points with 4 threes and 6 rebounds to cap off the group of double-digit scorers for Eastern Kentucky in the win.
Charlotte is 6-1-1 ATS in their last 8 games against a team with a winning record and 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games against a team with a winning percentage above .600 while the over is 7-0 in their last 7 games when their opponent allows 100 points or more in their previous game. Eastern Kentucky is 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games following an ATS win and 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games following a straight up win while the over is 4-0 in their last 4 games overall.
I’m backing Charlotte here. The Colonels keep defying the sceptics, but the problem is that we’re talking about a championship game and while both teams are on no rest for this game, EKU has played three straight OT games in the tournament while Charlotte’s dispatched of their opposition rather easily. I also don’t envision the Colonels having the easiest of times trying to pick apart Charlotte’s defense and combat their slow pace, so I’ll back the 49ers in this one.
