The Eastern Illinois Panthers and the Eastern Kentucky Colonels meet Monday in college basketball action from EKU Alumni Coliseum. Eastern Illinois is coming off their first win of the year over Rockford. As for Eastern Kentucky, they’re 4-1 so far and took out Albany in their last outing. Eastern Illinois didn’t have a lot of luck in their first three games. The Panthers lost to Northwestern 80-56, then Saint Louis 86-44. In game three EIU got very close in a 62-61 defeat.
The Panthers finally broke through with a win over Rockford in their last game. EIU scored 46 points in the first half and 50 more from there in a 96-64 win. Sammy Friday led the way on 21 points and seven rebounds.
Over on the EKU side, they didn’t have any issues in their first couple of games. The Colonels beat Georgetown KY 93-63 and Ohio Valley 103-74 in that pair. Eastern Kentucky then beat Milwaukee 77-71 and lost to James Madison 79-78.
Eastern Kentucky got back in the win column versus Albany in their last outing. The Colonels were ahead 40-35 at halftime and didn’t look back in a 77-64 result. Michael Moreno topped the team on 15 points with seven rebounds.
The Colonels are 14-6-2 ATS in their last 22 at home and 1-4 ATS in their last five after an ATS win. EKU is 34-15-2 ATS in their last 51 overall.
Meanwhile, the Panthers are 8-20 ATS in their last 28 road games and 16-35 ATS in their last 51 overall. Eastern Illinois is 5-1 ATS in their last six Monday games.
PICK: I’m going with Eastern Kentucky. The Colonels only have the one blemish in their record so far (a game they could have won) and played well in their last outing. EKU shot 43.3 percent from the field against Albany with 40 rebounds and 13 team assists.
As for EIU, I like them to hang around for a while here but I don’t know if they’ve got the offensive legs to keep up for the whole game.
