The Northeastern Huskies and the Elon Phoenix meet Wednesday in college basketball action from Schar Center. Northeastern is 6-5 so far this year. The Huskies lost to Davidson in their last game. Northeastern went 3-3 over their first six games, taking out Boston U, Duquesne and Southern Illinois in that time. It’s been a 3-2 run for the Huskies since then; they’ve fallen to Harvard and Davidson in that quintet of outings.
In the December 12 matchup versus Davidson, the Huskies were down 38-27 at halftime. Norhteastern posted a second-half advantage but couldn’t come back in a 79-69 loss. Tyreek Scott-Grayson topped the team with 20 points and six boards.
Over on the Elon side, they hit a 2-8 run over their first 10 with losses to Florida, West Virginia, Ole Miss, Temple, Jacksonville State, UNCG, High Point and North Carolina. After a win over Winthrop the Phoenix fell to Duke and Arkansas.
Matched up against Arkansas, the Phoenix were down 38-26 after one half and hit a 43-29 deficit from there in an 81-55 blowout loss. Michael Graham was the team’s top scorer with his 14 points and six rebounds.
The Phoenix are 1-4 ATS in their last five at home and 4-1 ATS in their last five Wednesday games. Elon is 2-8 ATS in their last 10 overall.
Meanwhile, the Huskies are 8-3 ATS in their last 11 road games after three or more consecutive home games and the over is 4-1 in their last five overall. The over is 8-3 in Northeastern’s last 11 road games.
PICK: I’m sticking with Northeastern. The Huskies had a bad outing versus Davidson in their last matchup, but prior to that they’d had a couple of good 74-points-plus outings. Northeastern can score when the matchup is right, and I’d imagine they’ll find some opportunities here. As for Elon, they’ve been at 63 or fewer in each of their last four games. I don’t think they’ll be able to keep up if the Huskies get going.
