The UNC Wilmington Seahawks and the Elon Phoenix meet Wednesday in college basketball action from Schar Center. UNC Wilmington is currently 12-3 on the year. The Seahawks beat Hampton in their last game. As for Elon, they’re 2-13 after a loss to Delaware on Saturday. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.

UNC Wilmington went 7-3 over their first 10 games this year, losing to only North Carolina, Oklahoma and UConn. Since then it’s been wins over Jacksonville, High Point, Campbell, Monmouth and Hampton.

In the Hampton game, the Seahawks posted a 42-32 edge by halftime. UNC Wilmington scored 40 more points from there and won 82-65. Jamarii Thomas led the team on 17 points with five assists.

Over on the Elon side, they were 2-8 over their first 10 games with wins over only Erskine and JWU-Charlotte. The Phoenix have since lost to Presbyterian, Valparaiso, Indiana, Drexel and Delaware.

In the Delaware game, the Phoenix took a 31-26 deficit into the second half. Elon kept the pace from there but still lost 57-52. Zac Ervin led the team on 18 points with three rebounds in 30 minutes of work.

PICK: I’m going to stay with UNC Wilmington. The Seahawks have put together a pretty impressive run so far, with the three losses all coming to major schools. It’s been a nice 11-game win streak since then, and UNC Wilmington has scored 68 or more points in each of their last six games. As for Elon, they’ve got 66 or fewer points in four of their last five games (all losses) so there’s not a whole lot to get excited about. UNCW should have the cover if they play well.
