The Niagara Purple Eagles and the Fairfield Stags meet Friday in college basketball action from Leo D. Mahoney Arena. Niagara is 8-5 overall this year. The Eagles beat Rider in their last game. As for Fairfield, they’re 6-8 so far after a loss to Siena on Sunday. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.

Niagara was 5-5 after 10 games this year, beating Central AR, Stetson, D’Youville, Quinnipiac and Eastern Michigan. The Eagles are 3-0 since then with wins over Binghamton, Mount St. Mary’s and Rider.

Matched up against Rider on Monday, Niagara jumped out to a 33-25 lead by halftime. The Eagles were outscored 34-28 from there but still won 61-59. Noah Thomasson led the team with 20 points and three rebounds.

Over on the Fairfield side, they hit a 4-6 clip though their first 10 games, beating Towson, Evansville, Saint Peter’s and Sacred Heart. The Stags are 2-2 since then with wins over Coast Guard and Marist.

On Sunday versus Siena, Fairfield was down by nine points going into the second half. The Stags managed to keep the pace from there but ended up losing 70-61. TJ Long was the top team scorer on 19 points with two rebounds.

PICK: I’m probably staying with Niagara. The Eagles didn’t play great in the second half of their last game versus Rider, but to their credit they were able to power out the win. Niagara has looked pretty good over this three-game winning streak, and they’ve got another winnable matchup here. As for Fairfield, they haven’t scored so great lately with 67 or fewer points in seven of their last nine games. The Stags do have a shot at a decent total here if they play well, but I’m still leaning toward Niagara cover-wise.
